Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.
Following a profession lasting half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.
The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
