Citizens have assembled throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the Second World War.

Israel reacted by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our violent opponents have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The Israeli government postponed state remembrance events until 16 October - after the completion of the festive season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israelis who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was respected across the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the terms of the plan.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the talks said that an evening round of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The source stated the earlier meeting finished without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the discussions are "difficult and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the disparities between the two sides.

Key Points in Discussions

  • A lasting ceasefire
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war administration of the territory

Public Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, young a woman - whose brother survived the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location appears as home any longer and until all the hostages return no one will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home again, we can relax once more. Then we can commence heal," she added.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people gathered to show their solidarity for the relatives of the abducted. Israel reports nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Activist one woman explained: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to be released. But we truly desire promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that around the majority of Israelis prefer the conflict to end in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the site of Nova festival, mourners gathered to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses said the intense Israeli attacks persisted.

In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western district, sector and zone areas and in the east side district of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the dusk arrives, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, described.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, particularly my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we check the news to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Health Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City reported it had received the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis indicated another two victims had been delivered. One of them was died by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the southern area, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
