Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
