The American champion Optimistic of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm satisfied with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She has an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
