This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
