Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the writers' room recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
